The situation
Tempco, an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer of custom heating elements, temperature sensors, and process heating systems, needed to automate its order processing to meet the demands of a significant customer, Grainger. Grainger required Tempco to comply with an EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) system through SPS Commerce, to streamline data exchange and improve accuracy. Tempco engaged Mr. IIoT to lead the integration.
The challenge
When Mr. IIoT started, Tempco relied heavily on manual data entry for Grainger's orders. “Grainger would send in about 22 to 23 orders on a Tuesday morning, and it would take a good amount of our customer service team's time to put all of those orders into our system,” notes IT Manager Jeff Griffin. The process was time-consuming and error-prone. Tempco needed seamless order processing that handled both inbound and outbound data — invoices and shipment notices — without manual intervention.
The solution
Mr. IIoT, under Chris Misztur's leadership, delivered a customized IoT system-integration solution that automated the EDI workflows between SPS Commerce and Tempco's ERP system.

The integration mapped data exchanges so Grainger's orders could be received automatically and processed seven days a week, with invoices and Advanced Shipping Notices generated and matched automatically. The project ran on weekly check-ins and close collaboration: “I gave them the specs, told them what we wanted, and then they came in as our consultants, programmed this feature we needed, and we were done with it.”
The result
- Fully automated order processing — manual entry for Grainger was eliminated; orders now flow in even on weekends.
- Enhanced customer satisfaction — orders, invoices, and shipment notices processed accurately and promptly. “It's been working totally awesome. We literally don't even pay attention to it, and if something goes wrong, Mr. IIoT has created alerts for us.”
- Efficiency gains — staff freed from repetitive entry for higher-value work. “If we run into an issue, we'll send Mr. IIoT an email, and within five minutes, I'll get a response.”
- Scalability — encouraged by the success, Tempco engaged Mr. IIoT to implement a similar EDI integration for another major customer, Zoro.
